Unlike the Huawei Mate XT, Samsung's reported tri-fold gadget could have a "infolding" design.

According to leaked information, Samsung is apparently working on a state-of-the-art tri-fold smartphone that it hopes to release as early as next year, possibly regaining its lead in foldable technology. There is a twist, though.

Additionally, according to insiders, Samsung’s tri-fold will have a distinctive “infolding” design. In contrast to the Huawei Mate XT, the only tri-fold phone currently on the market, which folds outward, this implies the screen folds inside twice. A key component of these gadgets’ long-term endurance is the sensitive foldable display, which Samsung’s design is anticipated to provide exceptional protection for.

The phone is said to have a huge 9 or 10-inch screen when it is unfurled, making it a tablet-like gadget that is comparable in size to the Galaxy Tab S9. Numerous opportunities for improved multitasking, immersive media consumption, and even console-quality gaming are made possible by this large display real estate.

But Samsung has a lot of engineering work ahead of it to realize this big dream. The difficulty of controlling the device’s thickness must be solved by the firm. According to reports, Samsung is aiming for a thickness of less than 13mm to keep the phone pocket-friendly since adding a third fold might make the device cumbersome and unmanageable.

Another important consideration is weight. The gadget may weigh a lot more than current foldables due to its complex folding mechanism and bigger screen. Samsung will have to carefully balance portability and usefulness.

This audacious step, though, indicates that Samsung isn’t yet prepared to cede its position as the market leader for foldable phones, which is changing quickly. Chinese producers and Google’s Pixel Fold series, which have lately been popular with customers, are becoming more and more of a threat to the business. The business seems to be placing a wager on foldable technology’s ability to change how mobile devices are made in the future.

Although Samsung is keeping quiet about the initiative, both customers and tech aficionados are growing more excited. Official statements on the features, cost, availability, and software experience Samsung will customize for this ground-breaking gadget are keenly awaited by the industry. The distinction between smartphones and tablets may become more hazy if Samsung’s tri-fold phone proves to be effective in launching a new age of foldable technology.
