Apple and Samsung’s rumored thin phones might not be noticeably thinner than current offerings.
A recent report from South Korea suggests that the predicted Galaxy S25 Slim and iPhone 17 Air from Apple and Samsung could not be as thin as originally believed.
Apple and Samsung have both failed in their attempts to lower battery thickness, according to a tip from leaker Yeux1122 that Jukanlosreve originally discovered. According to reports, the companies intended to use thinner substrates and novel materials in order to minimize the battery’s footprint while keeping its capacity manageable.
This has proven to be more challenging than either business had expected, and the new strategy has unsurmountable obstacles.
The two have therefore made the decision to temper their aspirations and accept certain technical concessions.
Samsung will allegedly only be producing the Galaxy S25 Slim in limited quantities. Both businesses will deviate from their initial objectives and pursue larger batteries, resulting in phones that are thicker.
The iPhone 17 Air would have been far thinner than the 7.8mm thick iPhone 16 if Apple had originally aimed for a 6mm thick phone.
The slim phones will probably remain slimmer than the ones that Apple and Samsung currently sell.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to have a single 48MP rear camera, a titanium and aluminum frame, a 6.55-inch screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a smaller cutout for front-facing sensors, and the rumored A19 processor, according to previous rumors.
Similarly, a high-end phone with a 200MP primary camera is anticipated for the Galaxy S25 Slim.
The leak makes it abundantly evident that the batteries, which are essential to the slim design, will be produced utilizing current technologies. This raises the question of whether it would be wiser to postpone the phones until a new battery technology is developed.
Otherwise, consumers are unlikely to be impressed by the phones if they are only marginally thinner than the best phones on the market right now and have a poor battery life.
