Lyft is going to have a lot more autonomous vehicles in its app starting in 2025 thanks to a new partnership with May Mobility.
With a new agreement with May Mobility, an autonomous driving technology startup, Lyft will have a lot more autonomous vehicles in its app starting in 2025.
With intentions to provide driverless cars through the Lyft app, the two businesses established a multi-year agreement. Next year, May Mobility and Lyft will begin its first deployment in Atlanta. According to the official statement, Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS vehicles from May Mobility will be used for the upcoming service.
By collaborating with Lyft, we will be able to operate in additional markets and provide more mobility to more people faster. Edwin Olson, co-founder and CEO of May Mobility, stated, “As we collaborate with Lyft to make our cities better places to live, we will keep providing the valuable service our riders love.”
May Mobility claims that its proprietary Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to read data in real-time and continuously learn and adapt to new, complicated, and unpredictable driving conditions, will be installed in all of its vehicles.
We’ll probably know how this all-AI thing turns out until the first deployment takes place the following year. Regarding that, May Mobility and Lyft declared that they will begin organizing the initial deployment in the next months, including the fleet size, service region, and operating hours.
We are thrilled to have May Mobility join our team as an autonomous partner. Soon, May Mobility will make taking an autonomous ride in Atlanta as easy and intuitive as using any other Lyft option. According to Jeremy Bird, EVP at Lyft, “We’re making it easy for partners to plug their assets into our network and take advantage of our marketplace engine.”
The two businesses affirmed that safety operators will be used for first deployments before gradually switching to driver-out operations. Additionally, May Mobility and Lyft will collaborate with cities and local governments to hasten the introduction of autonomous vehicles in the US.
